Welcome to another edition of Skincare Sunday! You might be wondering why I titled this review of the Whamisa hydrogels like a certain clickbait-y news source that may rhyme with ShmuzzSeed. Read on to find out!
If you've been searching for a beautiful, organic brand to try, Whamisa is it. They use organic ingredients with all-natural preservatives and are held within the same brand portfolio as fellow au naturale brand, Soyedodam. I'd been looking to dip my toe in Whamisa products for awhile, but it was only a few weeks ago that I let myself be overcome by hydrogel-lust after reading rave reviews from Fifty Shades of Snail and The Beauty Wolf.
I purchased a pack of 5 hydrogels which consisted of:
1 Organic Seeds & Rice Fermented Hydrogel Facial Mask
2 Organic Flowers & Aloe Vera Fermented Hydrogel Facial Masks
2 Organic Fruits & Tomato Fermented Hydrogel Facial Masks
I then proceeded to wear one a day over the past week. Long story short, they're amazing and are my favorite treat-yourself masks ever!
|These should go on any skincare addict's bucket list.|
Whamisa Hydrogel Mask Overview
These hydrogels are formulated with 95% organic ingredients that are naturally fermented (lovely, lovely ferments!!!). According to Glow Recipe and Whamisa, there are 3 flavors that address different issues:
Seeds & Rice for lifting, anti-wrinkle, soothing.
Fruits & Tomato for lifting, revitalizing, toning.
Flowers & Aloe Vera - lifting, whitening, moisturizing
How Did They Perform?
In general, they all contain a bottle of seriously hydrating serum. There's so much serum in these that the hydrogel is drenched, making them silky soft and slippery, meaning they're tricky to apply (but still way worth the trouble). The mask comes in two pieces, one for the top half and the other for the bottom half of your face. It fits well in that it doesn't gap at all, but as it is so slippery, I recommend lying down while using this mask. It's also on the smaller side, so I chose to use the eye and mouth pieces on either the top of my forehead or my under eyes. Just like the Soyedodam hydrogels, you're going to want to apply the excess serum in the package to your face before applying the masks. I wore each of these for about an hour comfortably. Totally loathed taking them off, they felt SO luxurious and amazing. The serums smell delicious, like a citrus and herb garden.

They each performed a little differently.
Seeds & Rice was the most firming of the three masks. It was also the least moisturizing (still very good though). It was great at evening my skin tone and refining my pores (I know they can't shrink, but they looked shrunk). It also brightened my face a bit. My skin glowed after using this one and it was my favorite of the bunch.
Fruits & Tomato was the most balanced mask and was really good at everything. Its moisturizing, brightening, and pore-refining effects were very noticeable. It wasn't as firming as Seeds & Rice, however.
Flowers & Aloe Vera had the lightest scent profile. You could hardly smell the serum without taking a huge whiff. This one was the best at moisturizing and brightening my face.
I'd definitely repurchase all of these. If I had to rank them, I'd say I liked the Seeds & Rice the most, then the Flowers & Aloe Vera, and lastly, the Fruits & Tomato.
In case you're wondering how they compare to the Soyedodam, these have way more essence, and have a silkier feel on the skin. They are however, much flimsier than the Soyedodams, probably because they are drenched in the essence. If I had to choose one or the other, I'd pick the Whamisas'. If there were a beauty hall of fame, these hydrogels deserve a spot in it. They feel so luxurious and spa-like. The only word to describe them is that they "쩔어" (jjul-euh) which means they're f*king awesome.
These masks are rich in antioxidants and the fermentation process they've undergone boosts the anti-aging superpowers of these ingredients even more.

These masks can be found at www.glowrecipe.com for $9 a piece, or $40 for your choice of 5 masks. If you use the link I just provided, you will receive $5 toward your first purchase (as will I). I've only purchased from Glow Recipe on one occasion, but enjoyed my experience with them. I found they shipped quickly. They even sent some Goodal samples and included a handwritten note! ^^
These masks are also sold at the official Whamisa site for ~ $6 a piece, or $60 for a pack of 10. You would need to use a buying service like Avecko to purchase this way. While they are currently on super sale at 84% off, I would be wary of shipping such a deeply discounted product from overseas unless you could verify the manufacture / expiry date with customer service. It'd be devestating to end up with expired product. So those are my thoughts! Are you interested in these masks? Have you tried Whamisa before? How did you feel about what you tried? I'm now itching to check out the foaming cleanser (pH 5.5) and the kelp mask from this brand.
